A lot of people get upset about the high prices for cables. HDMI cables, network cables, and especially Monster-brand cables always seem to be higher priced than what people want to pay for them. In addition to problems with the prices, I more frequently have a problem with their availability. If I can find the cables locally, I seem to only have the options of 3 feet or 6 feet HDMI cables and not much selection for network cables. To alleviate both problems, we can head online. But where online where you don’t get ripped off?
I have previously recommended StarTech.com for their cool Conxit Connection Wizard but today I recommend another e-tailer, MonoPrice.com.
There is a lot to like about MonoPrice – They have a wide variety of cables and they offer them in different lengths and colors. They also reward bulk shopping. Starting at just purchasing two or more of the same cable, you start getting a bulk discount and the discount continues to scale with the more you buy.
Another reason to like MonoPrice.com is for their helpful guides they’ve been doing. You can check out the Intro to USB 3.0 or the Intro to HDMI 1.4 Features. My favorite, however, is the Video Conversion Matrix. It allows you to look at two different connections and find a way to make them work by seeing where the two intersect in the matrix. For example, you could trace where composite and HDMI intersect to find the Composite to HDMI Scaler as a suggested solution.
Besides their low prices on cables (I have a bunch of network cables currently on their way to me), I wish I had thought of them for other networking components. It would have saved me a bundle and let me get everything in one shopping trip if I had bought the wall plates and network jacks from MonoPrice. Shipping is a fair rate so it doesn’t rip you off there but it’s not free like some bigger websites.
If you’re shopping for cables and other networking or home theater components, be sure to check out www.MonoPrice.com. Another good competitor to visit is www.Firefold.com.
This is not an affiliate post. MonoPrice is just a quality website that I would recommend to my friends and family, hence the post to share it with you (and hopefully remind myself in the future).
