Microsoft held a Windows 10 event this morning to announce several upcoming features to the operating system as well as some upcoming hardware products. Here’s a quick recap:
Windows 10 Creators Update
“Creators Update” will be the name of the next Windows 10 update and it will arrive in early 2017.
3D for everyone with Paint 3D, PowerPoint, and HoloLens. The community access to 3d models with multiple applications to allow neat creations across a variety of interfaces.
Surface Book i7
The Microsoft Surface Book i7 is a top of the line laptop with a long battery life, touch/pen input, and removable keyboard. Disappointingly, there was no update to the Surface Pro line. The Surface Pro 4 is still the latest Surface Pro available.
Surface Studio
The Surface Studio is an all-in-one with a touch interface. It can be positioned from standing to a lowered angle like a drafting table. It’s 28″ display has more pixel density than a 4K TV. It is customizable for i5 or i7 CPU, GPU, and amount of RAM and storage.
The Surface Dial can also be used with the Studio to offer direct adjustments while using the pen or integrated apps that take advantage of it. It will be included for free with pre-ordered Surface Studios.
VR partners
Microsoft also announced that several hardware partners (HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and Acer) would be offering mixed reality headsets starting at $299.
Games stream with Beam
Gaming will work in 4K and with the Creators Update, game streaming technology will be built in with Beam. You can stream your game and others on Xbox Live can watch or you can create your own tournaments.
People first
The Creators Update will also make ‘people first’ by adding your top contacts to your task bar (optionally) and make it easier to share information or see related information.
