At HP Discover, HP’s CTO Martin Fink discussed their new approach with Universal Memory to create faster and more efficient servers in the future. HP Labs is the company’s research wing and works on the next technology revolutions in broad categories like systems, security and cloud, analytics, networking and mobility, printing and content delivery.
In this session from the 2014 HP Discover, Martin Fink talks about the future of data centers with Universal Memory and photonic links. Their simulations say this could result in a 6-fold improvement in performance with 80 times less energy. He showed off a prototype of what they are dubbing “The Machine”, which could be scaled to a rack or a data center, that utilizes these memristors.
The chemistry class take away is the new role of electrons, photons, and ions.
