Yes, your cellphone can be used to spy on you. And yes, you can use your cellphone to spy on others. While we do not necessarily recommend doing this, it’s good to be aware of some of the techniques, at least for preventative purposes.
This article will be useful to those who want to know how to track someone’s location, find out what calls were made to and from a mobile device, and also to track the text messages being sent by the “person of interest”. We will cover a few of these “spy” techniques below.
Technique 1: Using Google Maps (Android and iOS)
For those that may not know about it, the Google Maps app contains a “Show my location” capability. This capability can be exploited to track someone’s location (as long as they have their phone with them).
Here’s how:
Both you and the person you wish to track have to have the Google Maps app installed.
You then need to access the Google Maps app of the person you wish to track, go into the menu and after selecting “Show my location”, specify your email or phone number.
Now on your mobile device, go into your Google Maps app and under the “Show my location” select the person that you wish to follow. Their location will now be shown on your map.
Technique 2: Using Google Fit (Android and iOS)
Yes the app that is so great for keeping fit and keeping track of your activity level can also be used to track your movements (more accurately, the history of your movements).
Here is how:
Install the Google Fit app onto the device of the person that you wish to track.
In the evening, open the app on that person’s phone and click on “Steps” .
You will now be able to see the locations where your “person of interest” has been during the day and the paths they took to get there.
Technique 3: Using IFTTT (Android)
Note: some of the details are outside the scope of this article but can be researched here.
Here is an overview of how to do this:
You will need to install the IFTTT app on the mobile device of your “person of interest”.
Create a new Applet.
Create a new Event .
Select “Android Phone Call” as the Trigger.
Choose which calls should be processed (incoming, outgoing, or all).
Create a new Action and select Google Drive as the destination. Make sure you select YOUR Google Drive, not the one belonging to the persons whom you’re tracking.
Further configure the Action to “Add row to spreadsheet” .
Click “Finish”
Now all calls made from the device where you installed the IFTTT app will be recorded in the spreadsheet located on your Google Drive, in the IFTTT folder.
Techinque 4 (for tracking text messages )
Tracking text messages can be tricky. The easiest way is to use this application for tracking text messages .
There are many more ways that a cellphone can be used to spy on someone. Now that you have been made aware of a few of the techniques, hopefully you will be more watchful of your device.
