First release since the AVG acquisition, Avast 2017 available

Avast 2017 was released today for the free and paid markets. Avast Free Antivirus, Avast Pro Antivirus, Avast Internet Security and Avast Premier were all updated with new features to improve performance and security. This is the company’s first release since they acquired AVG last year.

The features worth highlighting include:

Behavior Shield – a ransomware protection integrating AVG’s behavior analysis for real-time protection by watching code as it executes

Wi-Fi Inspector – previously called Home Network Security, will scan your network for vulnerable devices and weak Wi-Fi passwords, exposed routers, and enabled but unsecured IPv6 to prevent IoT abuse and building of botnets like last year’s Mirai botnet.

Avast Passwords – a password manager to keep your passwords unique per site and behind one strong master password.

CyberCapture – Avast’s cloud-based file scanner to analyze unknown files faster and isolated in a cloud environment.

Game Mode – automatically detecting game play and switching to zero interruptions and optimized performance for gaming including pausing Windows Updates and other notifications.

Passive Mode – Avast will run alongside another security solution without decreasing performance, allowing you to choose the best features of each product.
