Cisco is investing $10 million in the industry with its Cybersecurity Scholarship program. They are introducing two new CCNA Cyber Ops security certificates and for those awarded the scholarship, they will receive training, mentoring, and exam fees.
To qualify for the scholarship, you need to be at least 18, proficient in English, have basic technical competency, be able to complete the training in three months, be willing to share a success story, and plan a career in cybersecurity. To get started, you fill out a simple questionnaire that will confirm that you meet these requirements. After submitting that, Cisco will get back to you if you made it to the next phase which includes an assessment exam. The exam was 30 multiple choice questions with 60 minutes to complete the exam in your browser. I thought it was a pretty easy quiz with questions covering Windows, Linux, and networking.
If selected into the program, you must complete the program within 90 days.
The approximate time commitments required for the web-based training are as follows: 15 hours for the “Introduction to Cybersecurity” course, 100 to 120 hours for the “Understanding Cisco Cybersecurity Fundamentals” (SECFND) course, and 100 to 115 hours for the “Implementing Cisco Cybersecurity Operations” (SECOPS) course. The experience of each student will determine the precise time it will take to complete the program.
Visit Cisco’s cybersecurity scholarship page to learn more or if you would like to learn and prepare for the exams on your own, two textbooks are available for pre-order with delivery set for early next year:
