How to enter your emergency information in Android 7.0 Nougat

One new feature that came with the update to Android 7.0 Nougat was the ability to provide emergency information on your phone. Just as someone could dial 9-1-1 (or your country’s corresponding emergency number) without unlocking your phone, they will also be able to view emergency information that could speed up their ability to assist you. The emergency information includes name, address, basic medical information, and emergency contacts. To add your emergency information, follow these steps.

Open Settings on your phone and choose Users.

Under the list of Users, there is a line for Emergency information. Tap that to open it.

You will receive a disclaimer that this information is stored outside of the lock and can be read by anyone with your phone.

“Emergency Information
Information you enter here can help first responders in an emergency. It is stored on your device only, and anyone can read it from the emergency dialer without unlocking your phone.”

If you accept this, you can continue.

Enter all of the emergency info that you are comfortable including name, address, blood type, allergies, medications, if you’re an organ donor, and any other medical notes. You can fill out all the fields or only the ones you are comfortable with. You can also tap the Contacts tab to add emergency contacts to people from your contact list. From the vertical dots menu at the top, you can choose to clear all emergency information if you change your mind.

Now, when your phone is locked, you can tap the Emergency button to get to the Emergency dialer. At the top is a new button with Emergency Information.

Your info and contacts are clearly listed to assist paramedics or others treating you.
