Microsoft introduced a new website network called docs.microsoft.com. The site is a new documentation services from Microsoft and is currently in a preview release. As the platform is refined and adapts to user feedback, more content will be added to the site. For now, the site docs.microsoft.com focuses on Enterprise Mobility documentation such as Advanced Threat Analytics, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Identity Manager, and more.
The site can be thought of as the next-generation replacement for TechNet and MSDN. Microsoft reviewed those knowledge stores and found them to be archaic with a brittle codebase to publish and deploy documentation. In the introductory post on the docs.microsoft.com blog, Microsoft explained several key features that the site is launching with, including:
- Readability
- Estimated Reading Time
- Content and Site Navigation
- Shortened Article Length
- Responsive Design
- Community Contributions
- Feedback Mechanisms
- Social Sharing
- Friendly URLs
- Light/Dark Website Theming
- Faster load time and geo-distribution
All of these factors make the site a much more enjoyable experience. Concise articles that are mobile-friendly and are easier to find and share will go a long way towards helping system administrators read relevant documentation for Microsoft products and services.
