Microsoft stated today that the company will be extending its SQL Server to Linux. SQL Server 2016 will arrive on Windows Server later this year and is promised to arrive for Linux in mid-2017.
We’re excited to announce SQL Server on Linux—another step towards making the industry-leading data management and business analytics platform available for any data, to run any application, anywhere.
The announcement comes ahead of Microsoft’s Data Driven event on Thursday, a live virtual event where the company will introduce SQL Server 2016. A private preview of SQL Server on Linux is available starting today with the core relational database capabilities.
Both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu are represented in the announcement, welcoming SQL Server to Linux. SUSE Linux is also represented in other site documentation.
