Software developer NirSoft released a new utility today. Titled BrowserAddonsView, the utility is very useful for analyzing a computer quickly for browser addons such as extensions, plugins, toolbars, and ActiveX components. This puts all of this information in one location. It could be very helpful for malware clean-up to ensure that there are no remnants left behind in the browser. It is able to analyze Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox across profiles on Windows XP through Windows 10.
The utility is helpful with analysis, providing the name, description, version, install time, associated URL, and more. Upon right-clicking an entry, you can be taken to the addon folder or the profile folder in File Explorer. You can easily save a list of selected addons or create an HTML report. BrowserAddonsView can also be used from the command-line with options to export the findings to text, CSV, tab-delimited, HTML, or XML.
The utility is a portable application that does not require installation to run. It can also be used to scan remote computers (assuming you have access to the Administrator C$ share or the profile folder by using the utility’s ‘Advanced Options’.
