How I organize my Android 6.0 Home screen

My previous phone was a Samsung and I originally tried organizing my app shortcuts across a few screens. I finally gave up and replaced TouchWiz with Yahoo Aviate Launcher. It auto-categorized each app and had another screen with an alphabetized view of each app. My new phone is stock Android, so I am avoiding launchers and other similar components.

I ended up organizing my home screen into five category folders. This gives me one page, Google Now to the left, and the All apps drawer, of course. I like this because it’s neat, quick, symmetrical, and fast to access. The folders I created are News, Games, Entertainment, Productivity, and Work. Folders can have pages within them once they hold more than 16 shortcuts.

This video gives a quick tour:

You create a folder just by dragging one shortcut on top of the other. You can name your folder by opening it up and typing on the ‘Unnamed Folder’ label at the bottom. You remove shortcuts or folders the same way, by long tapping it until it gives a little shake and then you can move it or remove it.

I added a widget to quickly turn on the flashlight and Verizon’s data quota widget (currently broken). I have been happy with the setup – it has worked well for me.
