Retail availability of the Raspberry Pi 2 was announced this week. The updated, self-contained board is available for $35 and includes:
- A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
- 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
- Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1
With the new processor, the Raspberry Pi 2 will be able to run ARM GNU/Linux distros and even Windows 10.
For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2. Microsoft will have much more to share over the coming months. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers.
Microsoft published their own announcement and sent out an email to individuals in the Windows Developer IoT program.
