This infographic might have been built to assist advertisers find their target audience but I think it also helps the everyday person understand how they are targeted and what privacy they could be giving up.
I like to think of Facebook not as a “social advertising platform”, but rather as the world’s largest media channel married to the world’s largest survey.
Facebook not only brings people to advertisers but it also provides those advertisers with identifying information such as interests, demographics, and behavior. As an advertiser, if you know what you are going for, you can target your audience to a pretty specific scope, ensuring your advertising dollar is being used most effectively.
