NVIDIA launched their SHIELD Portable last Summer. Now, they have launched a SHIELD tablet and it has the hardware to game with the best of them. The SHIELD tablet is an Android tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor on an 8-inch HD display. It includes a DirectStylus 2 stylus, supports microSD cards up to 128GB in size, and a wireless controller using WiFi instead of Bluetooth. As an Android tablet, it is able to install apps from Google Play and will get its updates over-the-air from NVIDIA. It launches with Android Kit Kat 4.4.
Besides having great hardware in the tablet, the SHIELD tablet is interesting because it allows playing Android apps but also PC games. You are able to stream games from the cloud or your PC with NVIDIA’s GameStream tech. This allows you to take your gaming experience away from the desk.
As SHIELD tablet joins the SHIELD family, our continued support of SHIELD portable won’t waver. Gamers can expect an over-the-air update to hit on July 29, bringing SHIELD wireless controller compatibility, along with the new SHIELD Hub and Netflix HD. Look for more details in the coming days.
