CompTIA Cloud+ certification now available

If you have ever wanted a certification in buzzwords, here is your opportunity.

A lot of people are critical of CompTIA certifications with opinions that they are too easy or too general. I think they are good stepping stones for people interested in IT, particularly A+ and Network+.

If you are interested in outsourcing some of your server load, you can turn to “the cloud”. To put a certification behind your knowledge and experience with cloud technologies, CompTIA now offers the Cloud+ certificate for technical personnel or CompTIA Cloud Essentials for non-technical individuals.

Topics covered in the Cloud+ exam include:

• Cloud concepts and models
• Virtualization
• Infrastructure
• Resource management
• Security
• Systems management
• Business continuity in the cloud

You can view the full exam objectives listing (.pdf) for more details.

The test consists of 100 questions with a 90 minute window. If you’re interested in CV0-001, here is what CompTIA recommends to get started:

It is recommended (though not required) that CompTIA Cloud+ candidates have at least 24-36 months of work experience in IT networking, storage or data center administration. Additionally candidates should be CompTIA Network+ and / or CompTIA Storage+ Powered by SNIA certified; and should be familiar with major hypervision technologies for server virtualization, although vendor-specific virtualization certifications are not required.

It appears Certification Press already has a study guide available for the Cloud+ exam: CompTIA Cloud+ Certification Study Guide (Exam CV0-001) by Nate Stammer and Scott Wilson.
