Dell has introduced an accessory that simplifies the desk of those using a laptop as their primary workstation. When you return to your desk, you might slide your laptop into a dock or even worse have to plug a variety of cables into it. The next evolution of the dock is here if you have Dell’s Latitude 6430u Ultrabook. That laptop, along with a Core i5 or i7 processor and up to 16GB of RAM, includes a Dell 1601 WiGig card. WiGig, or the IEEE 802.11ad standard, has a theoretical maximum speed of 7Gbps but it is easily blocked by walls. The IEEE 802.11ac standard is still under development and competes to be the next generation WiFi evolution beyond 802.11n. WiGig operates at the 60GHz frequency at 10 times faster than 802.11n.
With all of that speed at its disposal, Dell’s WiGig dock allows the 6430u to connect to an external keyboard, mouse, speakers, and display without plugging a single cable in.
Designed for use in offices, meeting rooms and classrooms, the Dell Wireless Dock offers quick and easy connectivity to displays, projectors, networks, speakers and other peripherals for unparalleled connectivity and convenience. The new dock supports up to two external displays with both DisplayPort and HDMI, features ample peripheral connectivity via three USB 3.0 ports and facilitates easy collaboration with a front Audio In/Out port for voice over IP at speeds of up to 4.6 gigabits per second. The Dell Wireless Dock can also be easily managed connect with the updated Dell Connection Manager supporting that now supports both WiGig and Wireless LAN settings.
The Dell Wireless Dock D5000 is equipped with a pairing button to make it easy to establish a secure connection between the dock and another device.
Especially ideal as a connectivity solution in conference rooms and classrooms, the Dell Wireless Dock supports cable-free, seamless transitions between multiple presenters and hassle-free collaboration. An adapter is available for VGA-based infrastructures and an Ethernet connector helps ensure dedicated, stable bandwidth for fast data transfers and efficient communication with remote locations. Additionally, the Dell Wireless Dock has the same level of usability and easy integration as the current Latitude E Series Docking Stations with remote access, monitor and configuration for business class control.
The Dell Wireless Dock is listed as $269.99 separately but when customizing a Latitude 6430u, the dock can be included at $186.75. Adding to the complexity, the press release lists the dock as available worldwide for $249.
