Skype, Adobe, TomTom, Norton and other companies have gotten on board with International Technology Upgrade Week. The main mantra of the event seems to be that software maintenance isn’t that big of a deal when you consider you regularly do home maintenance, car maintenance, yard maintenance, and even beard maintenance. Many of those can cost a pretty penny and take up a good chunk of time. Comparatively, software and device management – being mostly free, semi-automated, and not that time consuming – should be fairly free from complaint.
To coincide with ITUW, Skype commissioned a survey of American, British, and German consumers to find out how people regard updating their technology.
The results of the survey are summarized nicely in the infographic at the bottom of this article. Update your software today and read up on the company’s whose products you use. The survey indicates many don’t understand how updates can introduce new features or patch vulnerabilities in the software. Some are also concerned that they might accidentally download something malicious so they never update anything. Learn the software you use and know how to securely update it.
