I was a bit bummed when setting up my work computer recently that one of my trusty favorites, the Lammer Context menu, caused Windows Explorer.exe to crash on every right-click. (It still works well at home though.) I was disappointed to not have this tool for the two things I use frequently out of it: Copy the file’s path and calculate checksum.
Be bummed no more! Windows 7 and Server 2008 natively include a ‘Copy as Path’ entry on the context menu. It’s just a little hidden.
Hold down Shift when you right-click on a file and you’ll be presented with the option to ‘Copy as path’. It works when you right-click on files or folders. Selecting it places the path to the file or folder on your clipboard and wraps it with quotation marks (in case the path has spaces). Very nice!
I knew about holding down Shift to get the “Run as Administrator” but never noticed the “Copy as path” until just now.
