The protests of SOPA and PIPA are going on today and various websites are participating. Here’s a simple gallery of what some of those sites have put in place of their normal content.
Wikipedia
Mozilla
WordPress.org
Demonoid
Craigslist
Vimeo
DuckDuckGo
Cheezburger Network
BoingBoing
Wired
Ars Technica
XBMC
XKCD
SMBC
Questionable Content
Joy of Tech comic
Basic Instructions
The Oatmeal
5 Second Films
I would give Wikipedia an award for best looking, Demonoid and XBMC tie for interactive awards, and Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal an award for most alarming.
The point of the protest is to make your average person aware of the gravity of these bills. Many of these sites already have a tech-savvy audience that don’t need to be made any more aware of the problems with SOPA. Sites like Wikipedia, Craigslist, and others will do a good job of reaching the unaware while many others are just preaching to the choir.
