This time last year, I was writing about how Google Trends could tell us what to expect for Thanksgiving dinner because people were searching for things like butterball turkey, deviled eggs, green bean casserole recipe, apple pie, sweet potato casserole, turkey gravy, cranberry orange relish, candied yams, and sweet potato pie.
Using Google Insights for Search, we can filter the search to the last 7 days and specify Product Search only. This shows us a few hot items that appear to be top on the list for early Black Friday doorbusters. It looks like Samsung and HDTVs are some of the most popular targets this year.
In addition to that, we have iPod, iPad, tablets, laptops, Wal-Mart, and the Wii making top searches. Coming up quickly in rising searches are the Leapfrog LeapPad, Kindle Fire, bedding sets, amongst others. If you’re hoping to pick up any of those items, you might want to give yourself a little extra leeway to beat the other folks to the mall this Friday.
Of course, there’s always sleeping in on Friday and staying warm by your computer until Cyber Monday.
