A press release this morning announced Netflix’s plans for expansion to the UK and Ireland early next year. This was an unconfirmed rumor earlier this year and is now being announced by Netflix though it’s not posted on the Netflix Blog as of publishing. Having expanded from the USA to Canada and Latin America, Netflix continues the march to globalization with its new announcement to be available in the UK and Ireland next year.
Along with their recent self-defeating methods, Netflix will also face challenges of bandwidth caps from ISPs and, in the UK, the Amazon-owned LoveFilm.com. Like Netflix’s other international expansions, this will include the streaming-only package and not the DVD-by-mail option. Future customers interested in finding out more can head to www.netflix.com and check it out. It will detect your country and send you to the UK page. There, you can sign up for more information to be e-mailed to you. Pricing, content, and supported devices are all to be announced closer to launch.
