Following the release of Adobe Reader and Acrobat 10.1.1 yesterday, the Adobe IT Matters blog posted about some new tools for IT pros managing Adobe Reader and Acrobat. It appears the new tools are setting a new trend as ‘Enterprise IT Tools for Adobe Acrobat and Reader‘ is a new category in the Adobe Labs Downloads. Hopefully this is a sign of more to come.
The Adobe® Acrobat® team recognizes that certain in-house utilities, scripts, and tools may prove beneficial to IT professionals in the enterprise community. The Enterprise IT Tools for Acrobat and Reader are designed to facilitate deployment, configuration, and workflow management in enterprise settings.
The tools that Adobe released this week are:
- JavaScript Blacklist Framework for Adobe Acrobat or Reader – This utility allows IT to modify the JS API blacklist for any Acrobat product. It allows simple visual inspection and modification of the Blacklist in the registry’s HKLM hive without opening and editing the registry manually.
- Multi-User Reader Desktop – The MURD tool allows IT to install multiple Reader versions, create custom file extensions and mime types, and control the version that opens what type of file.
You can download the tools, each a zip file less than a megabyte in size, from the Adobe Labs Downloads page.
You can find more Adobe resources for IT Pros at their Adobe Acrobat – IT Resources page.
