Another Scam Via Snail Mail From The Internet – Domain Registry of America

The downfall of the WHOIS system for domain registration is that you leave yourself open to being contacted. Usually this might result in spam e-mail messages but every once in a while, scam attempts make their way through the postal mail. I previously wrote about a letter from Web Listings Inc with what looked like a bill for SEO services and received a few confirmations that others were also getting the letters.

The other day I received a new one from Domain Registry of America. Without looking closely, the letter appears to be a bill for renewing your domain name.

If you read through it, it says it is not a bill but first glance might have you thinking otherwise. Renewing and transferring your domain is probably not a task you want to undertake with a company that sends out letters like these, even if they deliver what they promise. Their costs are also $35 for 1 year when I could renew with GoDaddy for about $10 per year.

And on the back side, there’s plenty of fine print for your pleasure reading.

Of course, it’s completely your choice but I would recommend steering clear of Domain Registry of America. I’ve found the best value and reliable service with GoDaddy.
