Google Chromebooks Go On Sale Today But Only One Shows Up

Today, the first Google Chromebooks from Samsung and Acer go on sale. Well, supposedly they do. Samsung only seems to have its Arctic White, 3G Chromebook available from Amazon, the same model that was available for early purchase, while the rest are listed as not released yet. Acer, meanwhile, has neither of its products released and Amazon is only listing them as available for pre-order.

I can’t even find mention of the Chromebooks on Acer’s website. ComputerWorld has confirmed with Acer that the Chromebooks have been delayed and will miss their anticipated launch day of today. Worse yet, according to the article, Acer hasn’t even settled on an official name or been able to get review copies out.

Samsung lists the Chromebooks on its website but only the Arctic White, 3G is available for purchase on Amazon. The rest are listed for pre-order. If you were looking to get one on release day, it looks like they’ve spared you any time wasted on decisions. It’s going to be white and 3G capable at $499.99.

Weird. Google hasn’t been known for their strong customer support and some have speculated this as the Achiles’ heel of Google products when it comes to hardware. I wonder if this is going to be a stumbling block that prevents the ChromeOS concept from successfully taking flight.
