Taking geekery to a new level, Sebastian Cardoza, has used his router’s scripting capabilities to monitor the traffic for anytime somebody searches for “Super Mario”. The router will then play the Super Mario Theme if it finds the query.
The router I have (Routerboard 493G) has an OS that allows for extensive scripting capabilities. With that, I’ve enabled a transparent proxy that monitors outbound requests on port 80 and puts them into a separate log file in memory. Then, a script runs every 2 seconds and parses that log file looking for the string “q=super+mario”. When found, it triggers another script that actually plays the Super Mario Bros theme. I didn’t write the code to the theme, but found it on the Mikrotik Wiki:
Impressive!
