Mozilla Firefox 3.6.7 Released

Firefox 3.6.7 was just released and addresses a number of security and stability issues. You can update to this latest version by going to Help, Check for Updates… or by downloading the latest version from the Firefox site. While security issues are always good, a number of people have visited 404 Tech Support and commented that they were experiencing stability problems with versions 3.6.4 or 3.6.6 that mainly introduced Crash Protection.

Fourteen security advisories were addressed with this release and it’s recommended that you update soon for security reasons. For more details about what came with this update, see the 3.6.7 Release Notes.

With Mozilla increasing the reward for reported bugs to $3000 yesterday, hopefully we’ll continue to see a higher number of critical bugs being quickly fixed as a result of the Mozilla Security Bug Bounty Program. In related news, Google Chrome should also hope to see a similar increase in reported bugs as Google increased their reward to $3,1337 today. With these two increases back-to-back, it may spur the tech industry across the board to offer rewards or increase their current offers for bug reports. The reasoning behind these programs is that security researchers could currently sell these vulnerabilities that they discover for more money to the “bad guys” but at least some competition may give them pause and reduce the number of vulnerabilities that malicious folks end up knowing about first.
