If you’re looking for insight and rational discussion, the last place I would recommend is the YouTube comments section. Many “trolls” seem to have found no better way to pass their time than posting inane comments on popular YouTube videos. Your best bet is to not waste any time reading the comments, let alone replying to the offensive word vomit.
If you use Firefox or Chrome, you can install an extension for your web browser that will automatically filter out YouTube comments based on the user name. If the user is a known “troll”, then their comment will be wiped out and you won’t have to waste your time on it. The extension is called Hide Fedora and can be installed from the official extension sources.
Hide Fedora for Mozilla Firefox
It’s a minor annoyance but could help change Internet culture. As most of these people are trolling for attention, the less attention they receive then they might move onto something else.
Install the extension and those annoying le reddit, fedora, m’lady type of comments on YouTube should be removed.
The list gets updated regularly and you will also be able to report reddit armie users.
The source code is here https://github.com/hadalin/chrome-hidefedora
where you can also report bugs and make feature requests. You can also submit an appeal to a ban: https://jhvisser.com/hidefedora/html/unban/appeal.php
When you hover over a YouTube comment, an HF button will appear next to the thumbs up/thumbs down. Clicking the HF button will report that user as a troll and block the comment.
