September into October is looking to be a busy time for consumer electronics. Companies are either competing for recent attention, gearing up for the holidays, or just synchronizing their release cycles right around this time. Yesterday, we had Amazon’s press conference of the 4 new Kindles including their new Android tablet, Kindle Fire.
On October 4th, Apple is holding an event to reveal the iPhone 5. This will be their first event since Steve Jobs resigned as CEO back in July.
Samsung Mobile sent out invites for an Unpacked event on October 11th at 11:30am and Google appears to be onboard as well.
This event will be streamed live at YouTube.com/Android
Most are anticipating announcements regarding Android’s next version, Ice Cream Sandwich, and many are hoping for an announcement regarding the availability of the Nexus Prime on multiple carriers. (I’m included in the latter group.)
Not a hardware manufacturer but Sprint also has an event planned for October 7th. It has invited the press to an event it is dubbing a “Strategy Update”. Since it is following Apple’s event, it’s rumored that Sprint will announce that they’re carrying the iPhone 5 at that time. I’m hoping they’ll talk Nexus Prime, 4G expansion, or switching to LTE.
